What is Baltic amber and how can it help us? What is succinic acid? What colors and styles of Baltic amber contain the most succinic acid? Baltic amber contains analgesic properties, and as you will see when you read below, it is prized for a number of health and wellness benefits.
Inspired by Finn Baltic amber jewelry is a unique piece of history. The amber beads are fossils from an ancient forest which existed tens of millions of years ago.
Baltic amber is not a stone, but a fossilized tree resin.
For centuries, Baltic amber has been used in Europe as a natural and traditional remedy and curative for many ailments and discomforts. Long ago it was considered one of the leading medicines of its time. Baltic amber is the most esteemed amber in the world, and the healing qualities of Baltic amber make it unlike any other type of amber found in the world.
It is said that when Baltic amber is worn on the skin, the skin's warmth draws trace amounts of healing oils out of the amber. These oils contain succinic acid and are absorbed into the skin.
Baltic amber has some of the highest concentrations of succinic acid found in nature, and this is what makes it so special. Succinic acid is a natural component of plant and animal tissues, and its presence in the human body is beneficial in many ways.
How can Baltic amber help us?
Relief of Discomfort
Baltic amber is worn by our customers for a number of health and wellness benefits. It contains analgesic properties and helps take the edge off of the discomfort and symptoms associated with: dental issues (such as the emergence of new teeth, orthodontic brace adjustments, TMJ), growing pains, allergies, sensory disorders associated with autism, headaches and migraines, arthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome, neck and shoulder discomfort, tendonitis, menstrual cramping, restless leg syndrome, back and knee discomfort, joint pain from chemotherapy, and many more. In order to be effective Baltic amber must usually be close to the site of the discomfort. For example, a necklace would not necessarily/likely be effective for growing pains in the legs. For this we would recommend an ankle bracelet.
Strengthens the body's immune system
In many different and subtle ways, succinic acid helps boost the body's own natural healing ability and immune system.
The human body naturally produces succinic acid. The salt of succinic acid (succinate) is one of the most active substances in the processes of cellular respiration and intercellular energy creation. Succinic acid restores oxygen and energy supply to depleted cells and helps the body return to a normal, functioning state.
Succinate is a raw material and a catalyst in the Krebs Cycle which is one of our main sources of energy. During the Krebs Cycle carbohydrates, fats, and proteins are metabolized for energy.
When the human body reacts to stress, the body's cells begin to use oxygen more quickly. Oxygen plays a central role in the intercellular creation of energy and a lack of oxygen can result in feeling lethargic.
Oxygen is alkaline-forming in the blood and maintaining a slightly alkaline blood pH helps keep us healthy. Whenever the body functions in a state of low oxygen, it is much more susceptible to illness.
To help break a cycle of (chronic) inflammation
Where chronic inflammation is present, disease lurks.
When the body's cells are chronically inflamed the human body's immune system response is to increase production of free radicals. Chronic overproduction of free radicals results in inflammatory-related disease. Chronic inflammation is a common denominator of many seemingly unrelated diseases.
While wearing a piece or two of Baltic amber jewelry may not cure all that ails you, it has been a proven benefit to many!
Baltic amber contains 3-8% succinic acid. Some believe the color of amber is related to the type of tree it came from.
Inspired by Finn often receives the question "With all the different amber styles and choices you offer, I don't know which one to choose. What do you recommend?" Their answer is that they do not carry any products that they do not recommend! They recommend them all. Inspired by Finn's experience has shown that all styles provide relief so their general recommendation is that you can feel confident making a selection simply based on aesthetics.

Quality Assurance and Certificates of Authenticity
As part of an ongoing quality assurance program, Inspired by Finn routinely has their Baltic amber products independently lab-tested by an established ICA and AGTA member U.S.-based gemological testing laboratory using infrared spectroscopy to authenticate that our amber products are 100% natural Baltic amber, not imitation amber. While Inspired by Finn has always been confident that thier amber is authentic, as the amber used to make our products comes from the mine, they've adopted this quality assurance program as additional peace-of-mind for their customers. Inspired by Finn amber is lab-certified as authentic Baltic amber.
HOW TO GET THE MAXIMUM BENEFIT FROM BALTIC AMBER:
The amber must make direct and continuous contact with your skin. It cannot be in a metal setting that prevents contact with your skin. Necklaces should be worn under the shirt, anklets under the sock, and bracelets should fit like a watch and remain stationary on the arm.
The amber should be worn as much as possible.
- For adults, 24 hours a day – 7 days a week (except when bathing) is ideal!
- For children, necklaces should be removed when the child sleeps. Some parents move the necklace to the ankle just prior to the child going to sleep. Double-wrap the necklace around the ankle, and place a sock over the foot to keep the necklace stationary.
Wear as close to the site of discomfort as possible. Wear a necklace for head and neck discomfort, a bracelet for discomfort in the wrist and hand, etc.
HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR BALTIC AMBER
- Clean with lukewarm water and a soft cloth at your discretion. Avoid detergents and cleansers.
- Do not expose the amber to anything that will potentially leave a residue on it, including soaps, shampoos, lotions, sunscreens, oils, perfumes, hair spray, etc. Residue on the amber can reduce its effectiveness.
- Inspired by Finn does not recommend wearing Baltic amber while bathing, in the pool, spa, or in other highly chlorinated water.
Most necklaces fasten with a screw clasp, and the necklace cord is knotted in between each bead. The breakaway clasp necklace fastens with a breakaway snap-clasp that requires minimal pressure to click together or pop apart. This clasp comes unfastened more easily and reliably than traditional screw clasps. Be advised it is much easier for a young child to unfasten this type of clasp by themselves. The amount of pressure it takes to unfasten this necklace is similar to necklace that has a magnetic clasp.
You will notice price add-ons for the longer length necklaces in the "Size" drop-down box of this listing.
Allergic reactions/topical skin irritations to wearing baltic amber are extremely rare, but do occur from time-to-time.
